Q: What is a "first generation college student"?
A: A college student whose parent(s)/guardian(s) do not have a four-year bachelor's degree. Also "first in the family to go to college."
Q: What is a "limited-income college student"?
A: We refer to low-income college students as "limited-income college students." Why? First, we don't want to continually remind students of their low-income status, which contributes to underperformance . Second, we think the term "low-income" can give the impression of a fixed status that doesn't change over time, whereas "limited-income" keeps the door open to socioeconomic status changes throughout one's life.
Q: How do you define "current college student"?
A: Any student currently enrolled in a college or university. This includes incoming college students (right after high school graduation), first-year students (freshmen), sophomores, juniors, seniors, and super seniors (who are in their 5th or 6th year of college).
Q: What's different about Propeller Collective vs. other sites and organizations with a similar mission?
